Feels Good Out Here!

Even though Karon continues to maintain that this is really not a porch and has even questioned my sanity, I had to get away and sit and listen to the birds, get some tea, and pet the dog! Things get so hectic sometimes that you just got to get away for your sanity.

Well, as most of you know, we are dealing with cancer a third time. What do you say after that? I had a joke in mind, but didn’t want you all to think I was inappropriate. Sometimes you have to laugh about it. Karon is really doing well. I wanted to share a prayer with you that she prayed this morning. It really touched my heart and I think that it even surprised her (there’s that Holy Spirit praying again!). She was praying and she said, “Thank you, Father, for the opportunity to have cancer a third time because I know that you can be glorified through it!” I was a little speechless, and she was too when it came out of her mouth. She really means it, though. Her main prayer for the last few days is that God would be glorified in this. I watched her minister to a lady in the surgeon’s waiting room yesterday as she was struggling with the knowledge of her father-in-law having cancer. She had very wet eyes and Karon jumped up, sat next to her, and started quoting scripture and testifying about God’s faithfulness to her. It was a blessing to watch.

Things won’t be the same. As you go through this some things change forever, but God never changes! I’ve learned some really great stuff through the last two times and God has made me a better husband and minister because of it, so it’s all good at the end!

One more thing before I go back inside. Some of you have questioned if it is ok to talk to Karon about it. She wants to talk about it and it seems to help her. So if she EVER gets on the porch again, feel free to discuss things.

Wow, I just finished a post on my blog about Karon and then checked the porch and read this. I made the following observation in my post “She opened her Bible and ministered to me.” I’ve told you guys this before, but I will make it official here on the porch - “I am there for you.” But that really doesn’t matter. What does matter is the Great Physician has His hand on Karon. And you will never be alone in this process. Praise be to God for sending the Comforter in times like these which allows Karon to utter such prayers. God will be glorified in this many times over.

I’m sure she will tell us all to shut up if she overhears us talking about her I’m just gonna put my fingers in my hears and keep going…

She said something similar to me the other day and I was absolutely blown away by it. It would almost be easier for me to say that, having never been through this and being ignorant of all that would lie ahead. But to have the experience already, to have a pretty good, basic knowledge of what is ahead and still to say that…

But I believe this is what Psalm 84 is talking about. - Blessed are those whose strength is in you, who have set their hearts on pilgrimage as they pass through the valley of Baca ….

The deeper level of the journey, Karon’s and yours or anyone elses, the real walk is in the heart. It’s not what you do on or with the journey but its the how of the journey and that comes from where the heart is set. I know where she gets that strength, but more importantly she knows where she gets it.

Don’t let it bother you that she questions your sanity - the only reason she so easily recognizes YOUR insanity is because it looks pretty similar to her own!

Now I HAVE TO ASK…what did you mean by this??

Yes, but she only “lurks” and I think she has only come here twice, that I know of. I think she likes it here, she just won’t admit it!

Cancer used to be deadly no matter what kind it was. Folks got busy and found ways to beat the disease in many cases. Karon’s is beatable. But looking further in the cancer definition comes the thing that so makes it like other things in our life. It invades tissues in our body through the uncontrolled division of cells and further invasion of tissues. Sin invades our life just like that. It finds a weakness or vulnerability and invades that with lies and deceit. That little bit of invasion grows because the lies and deceit have to be covered up with more to keep the first ones hidden. Justifying the invasion only allows it to multiply or metastasize to other areas of our lives. Sometimes it is very obvious to those around us and they diagnose the cancer for us but we don’t listen and the cancer grows killing our spirit and possibly the opportunity to come to know Christ. If caught in time the cancer can be cured with a dose of Christ and that will cover us for life, no matter the length on this earth.

Karon’s cancer again is not a test of her faith, she has it together. It is an open book opportunity to take Jesus on the road. Life is so hectic that we leave Him to the Sunday and Wednesday time and small windows here and there during our day. This is a front porch to the world for her and those around her. I can see God using her so boldly for Him and His kingdom. You don’t need the cancer to join her, just do it. I’m hearing my own typed words and I need to get off the couch and go onto the porch.

She is on the porch rockin through the WORD, let’s join her there.
